December 2024

A Bank's local walking group, the Rural Ramblers, has installed a Parcourse to increase physical activity for the Bank's Community.

What is a Parcourse? These are stations of equipment where people can perform specific exercises. This equipment is an excellent way to increase access to gym-like equipment for rural and urban residents. The equipment that has been selected will focus on improving balance, building muscle, core strength, and aerobic fitness.

Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) partnered with Banks Library on a rural health and civic engagement study that formed the Rural Ramblers walking group. The supporting research from the study showed that rural people had less access to exercise equipment, which can be linked to an increase in health problems.

The Rural Ramblers have received $5000.00 from OHSU toward this project.

The Rural Ramblers would like to thank everyone who contributed to the project.

Several local businesses and groups have supported the Parcourse installation, and the Banks Community Foundation is assisting with the project.

The final step will be to install the final surface material in the spring when the weather permits.

The overall budget projection for the Parcouse project is $45,000.00
